Lawmakers target PFAS in cosmetics, tampons

Measures were introduced this year in at least 10 states.

State lawmakers are targeting harmful chemicals that are used in personal care products such as cosmetics and tampons. 

Lawmakers in at least 10 states this year introduced 17 measures to regulate PFAS and other chemicals in personal care products, according to Safer States, a national alliance of environmental health organizations focused on reducing toxic chemical exposure. Those include bills in Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York and North Carolina
