Lawmakers weigh how best to safeguard kids on chatbots

The race to protect children from the potential harms of artificial intelligence chatbots has so far this year produced four new state laws, as well as triggered a fierce debate over what type of regulation is needed.

Dozens of chatbot bills remain in play with roughly half of state legislatures still in session. But three states stand out as battle lines take shape.
