Legislative leaders head for exits in retirement surge

At least 30 across 19 states aren’t seeking a new term.

America’s state legislatures will be guided by new leaders next year as a wave of House speakers, Senate presidents, and majority and minority leaders announce their retirements across the country.

At least 30 legislative leaders across 19 states have declined to seek a new term in this year’s elections. Eight of those leaders are seeking different offices, while four are retiring because of term limits.
