LGBTQ candidates broke off-year victory record

The total includes local, state and federal elections.

The number of openly LGBTQ candidates who were successful in Tuesday’s elections broke a record for an off-year cycle.

With some races still too close to call, at least 148 candidates notched wins by Wednesday afternoon, bringing the total for the year to more than 200, according to LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, which supports LGBTQ candidates in local, state and federal elections. The previous record of 184 wins was set in 2021.
