Mass. governor bans single-use plastic bottles in executive offices

It is the first state to take this action.

Gov. Maura Healey (D) signed a first-in-the-nation order barring state executive offices and agencies from purchasing single-use plastic bottles under 21 fluid ounces, except in the case of emergencies.

“Massachusetts has a long history of being first in the nation, and we’re proud to be the first to set long-term targets for biodiversity and to ban state agencies from purchasing single-use plastic bottles,” Healey said in a statement Thursday.
