Massachusetts targets long-term care industry

A bill awaiting the governor’s signature includes provisions that directly respond to issues that emerged during the pandemic.

Massachusetts aims to improve staff training, quality control and oversight of the long-term care and nursing home industry with legislation likely to be signed by Gov. Maura Healey (D).

The bill, which the legislature gave final approval to last week, addresses weaknesses in an industry that was ravaged by the Covid-19 pandemic and has since been plagued by workforce shortages and high-profile reports of abuse and neglect.
