Median household income in ’24 matched prepandemic level

The typical U.S. household earned $83,730 last year, new survey data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows, as median household incomes finally surpassed the previous high in 2019.

The typical household’s estimated income last year was not significantly different than in 2023 and essentially matched prepandemic levels. Still, it was another year of growth after incomes dipped immediately after COVID-19.
