Medicaid expansion push comes up short in Kansas

Supporters say they’ve made progress in several of the holdout states.

The push to expand Medicaid is headed for defeat in Kansas, one of several red states where reinvigorated expansion efforts have progressed but come up short.

Senate Democrats on Friday made a final push by using a procedural motion to force a floor vote on their expansion plan. The maneuver failed on an 18-17 vote, leaving the bill stuck in the Health Care Committee where it is bound to die when the legislative session adjourns on May 6.
