Medicaid offices prep for overhaul under new federal law

New requirements are forcing adjustments to administer the program.

State Medicaid offices are preparing for a wave of administrative changes stemming from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. 

The sweeping law President Trump signed on July 4 includes a first-ever federal work requirement for certain adult Medicaid enrollees, increases the frequency of eligibility checks, and expands rules around cost-sharing — all of which will force adjustments in administering the program.
