Minnesota set to enact red flag law, universal background checks

The $880 million omnibus package directs funding to public safety and the judiciary.

Minnesota House Democrats sent Gov. Tim Walz (D) an $880 million public safety and judiciary omnibus package that creates an extreme risk protection order and requires a background check for private transfers of pistols and semiautomatic military-style assault weapons.

The passage of the measure — on party-line 34-33 vote late Monday night — was welcomed by Walz, who said he would sign it.
