Miss. House passes Medicaid expansion bill with work requirement

The plan still needs approval from the Senate and Gov. Tate Reeves.

The Mississippi House passed a bill Wednesday that would make the state the 41st to expand Medicaid, potentially setting the stage for a seismic shift in a state that has struggled with some of the country’s worst mortality statistics and rural hospital closure rates.

Senate Majority Leader Delbert Hosemann (R) has signaled his support for a companion bill in his chamber. But any proposal would face a potential veto from Gov. Tate Reeves (R), a stalwart opponent of Medicaid expansion.
