The New Jersey Legislature approved a raft of energy-focused bills this week designed to help lower electricity costs.
They include: a bill that would require state electric utilities to charge a special rate to large power users, such as data centers, to protect ratepayers from increased costs; a bill that would end a tax break for a program designed to spur artificial intelligence and data center development; a bill that would remove hurdles for consumers to use plug-in solar; and a bill that would establish a program to help identify and build new nuclear projects in New Jersey.
