N.Y. on verge of passing landmark bills enhancing online protections for minors

The legislation faced fierce lobbying by the tech industry.

New York lawmakers are poised to pass a pair of bills aimed at bolstering online protections for minors before the legislature adjourns this week.

“We’ve reached a deal to pass strong legislation that will protect kids’ privacy and let them enjoy social media free from the unwanted content they didn’t sign up for,” Sen. Andrew Gounardes (D), who chairs the budget committee, said in a statement late Monday.
