National anti-immigration group shifts focus to states

The group believes their agenda amounts to ‘a very effective deterrent against illegal immigration.’

A major national nonprofit that seeks to reduce both legal and illegal immigration into the United States is turning its focus from federal immigration reform efforts, where Democrats and Republicans are at loggerheads, to red legislatures where Republicans control the agenda.

The group, NumbersUSA, is pushing legislators to expand the use of E-Verify, the system that allows employers to determine the immigration status of workers; block undocumented immigrants from obtaining driver’s licenses; and taxing remittances migrants send to their home countries.
