New Calif. law mandates insurance coverage for IVF, fertility treatments

More than a dozen related bills were introduced in states this year.

Insurance coverage for infertility treatments including in vitro fertilization will soon be the norm for most private policy holders in California under a bill Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed this week.

It was one of more than a dozen bills introduced in states this year that sought to put the costly treatments in reach for more families, as the national debate over abortion put pressure on lawmakers to reexamine other aspects of caregiver support and reproductive care.
