Voters in New Hampshire and Delaware on Tuesday set the final lineups for gubernatorial contests to replace retiring incumbents on Tuesday, brining to a close the primary election season just eight weeks before the general contest.
In New Hampshire, former U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R) cruised to an easy victory in the Republican primary over former state Senate President Chuck Morse (R). With about 30% of the vote tallied, Ayotte led with two-thirds of the vote.
She will likely face Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig (D) in what is expected to be the most closely fought gubernatorial contests in the nation this November. With 31% of the Democratic primary vote counted, Craig led former Executive Councillor Cinde Warmington (D) by a 46% to 43% margin.
