States are turning to technology to address spiking maternal mortality rates, as hospital closures and provider shortages make it harder for some to find pregnancy and postpartum care close to home.
Major maternal health care packages that were passed in Virginia and Arkansas in recent weeks will allow Medicaid to pay for wearable devices that can beam critical information about a developing fetus or a new mother to health care providers miles away. It could cut down on routine office visits and catch problems before they threaten lives.
