New York lawmakers want media to disclose AI use

Both chambers passed the measure with bipartisan support.

The New York Legislature has approved legislation that would require news organizations to disclose when artificial intelligence is used to create content, a first-of-its-kind measure supporters say will help maintain and restore trust in an age of AI slop.

The New York Fundamental Artificial Intelligence Requirement in News Act, approved in the final days of session, will require news outlets operating in the state to include clear disclaimers on content that was “substantially” composed by generative AI.
