Newsom announces gig driver unionization agreement

The California governor called it ‘a historic agreement between workers and business.’

Gig drivers in California could soon be able to unionize after ride-hailing giants Uber and Lyft reached a grand bargain with a major labor union over a pair of dueling bills in the state Legislature.

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and legislative leaders announced the deal Friday, the last day for bills to move out of budget committees.
