Newsom announces November special election for new map

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) announced Thursday he is calling for a Nov. 4 special election for voters to approve a new congressional map, in the first major blue state response to President Trump’s push to redraw lines.

Newsom said legislators, who return to Sacramento on Monday from summer recess, will vote on a new map that could increase Democrats’ already sizable advantage in the delegation.
