Newsom being pressed to veto AI bill

Its proponents are powering up their own effort to convince him to sign it.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) faces mounting pressure to veto a first-in-the-nation artificial intelligence bill that would require safety testing and full shutdown capabilities for the most powerful AI models of the future.

The bill has drawn opposition from the tech industry, venture capital leaders and members of California’s congressional delegation. Supporters are countering with a campaign aimed at convincing Newsom to sign it.
