Newsom signs data broker, right-to-repair laws

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed into law a pair of consumer-rights measures aimed at making it easier to request the deletion of personal data and requiring manufacturers to provide product repair kits to non-authorized dealers and product owners.

The Delete Act and right-to-repair bill were top priorities of consumer advocates who viewed the legislation as a way to rebalance the relationship between customers and industry, and to potentially create momentum for similar laws elsewhere.
