Newsom signs performer AI protections into law

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Tuesday signed into law a pair of bills aimed at protecting actors and performers from having artificial intelligence steal their likeness.

The measures, supported by the actors’ union, would guard against digital replicas being made of artists both living and deceased.
