Nuclear gains momentum as states seek clean energy solutions

More than 350 bills were introduced in 2025.

After a banner year, state interest in nuclear power is poised to grow as a projected surge in electricity demand forces states to find ways to meet the growing need.

More than 350 nuclear power-related bills were introduced in 2025, continuing the upward trajectory of states exploring the energy source, according to the Nuclear Energy Institute, a nuclear energy trade group. That compares with the roughly 300 bills introduced in 2024.
