Nuclear power receives jolt in New York, Texas

The governors announced in recent days new efforts to expand the energy source.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) announced Monday the state will develop and construct a new nuclear power plant, the state’s first new nuclear plant since Nine Mile Point Unit 2 in Oswego County went online in 1989.

Hochul’s announcement came three days after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) signed two nuclear-related bills: one would provide $350 million to develop nuclear power in the state, and one would help develop the state’s nuclear workforce.
