Ohio considers gender-affirming care ban, with a twist

It goes further than other states have in blocking access to care.

A key Ohio Senate committee on Tuesday will take up landmark legislation that would bar both physicians and mental health professionals from treating transgender minors, a bill that goes further than other states have in blocking access to care for transgender youth.

The measure, House Bill 68, dubbed the Save Adolescents from Experimentation Act, mirrors bills in other Republican-controlled states approved this year that bar physicians from performing gender reassignment surgeries on minors, or from prescribing hormone or puberty-blocking medications for the purpose of a gender transition.
