Once untouchable, magic mushrooms gain statehouse support

Just a generation after the tough-on-crime war on drugs, state lawmakers are wading into new territory where their predecessors dared not tread as they consider legalizing psychedelic substances to treat serious mental health conditions.

Bills that would allow the use of so-called magic mushrooms are advancing in multiple states, as lawmakers warm up to the potential health benefits of some psychedelics.
