Pennsylvania adopts automatic voter registration

It is the 24th state to do so.

Pennsylvania will become the 24th state in the nation to automatically register eligible residents to vote, Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) said Tuesday, joining a bipartisan list of states that opt residents into a system when they interact with the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Shapiro, in his first year in office, said the change would help the Commonwealth save money without sacrificing any of the security necessary to run free and fair elections.
