Pritzker signs protections for immigrants bill after ICE raids

One provision prevents arrests outside of courthouses.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker signed legislation limiting immigration enforcement operations in his state after the Trump administration sent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents storming through Chicago in recent weeks.

The measure the Democrat signed Tuesday will allow residents to bring civil legal action against law enforcement officers who violate the Illinois constitution or the U.S. Constitution. It prevents immigration agents from arresting anyone in or around courthouses and hospitals.
