Property tax relief a priority for states across the country

At least 10 states have passed property tax relief laws this year, and more could do so soon.

Lawmakers in New Jersey and Texas advanced ambitious property tax cuts this week, as both Democratic and Republican state leaders move to help lower required payments that are soaring along with home values.

At least 10 states have already passed property tax relief laws this year. Although such taxes are usually imposed by local governments, states can use refunds, credits, exemptions and other maneuvers to reduce what homeowners owe.
