Q&A: Conn. Sen. James Maroney, on the challenge of passing AI regulation

He discussed his multi-year effort and the changing AI policymaking landscape.

Connecticut Sen. James Maroney (D), a national leader on artificial intelligence policy, says he will try again to get comprehensive AI regulations passed after being thwarted for a second time this year.

Maroney led the creation of a bipartisan, multistate working group on AI that brought together lawmakers from across the country. He’s vice chair of the National Conference of State Legislatures’s Task Force on Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Privacy. And he is an in-demand speaker and panelist at conferences on AI policy.
