Red states on new push for tort reform

Bill sponsors say their measures are aimed at weeding out bad actors.

Republican lawmakers are working on a new raft of measures aimed at reforming the legal process, targeting expensive lawsuits filed against businesses, landlords and the insurance industry.

The bills introduced in each state vary in nature. But if tort reform moves have come in waves in recent decades, that variety hits at a new round of heavy surf ahead as momentum builds.
