Republicans aim for gains in N.J. Assembly

The majority is out of reach, but the GOP wants to build on Trump’s 2024 result.

Republicans are aiming to build on recent gains among traditionally Democratic voters in New Jersey next week, when all 80 seats in the General Assembly are on the ballot.

While the state’s competitive governor’s race is drawing most of the attention, the downballot contests could offer equally telling clues about both parties’ political futures — especially among nonwhite, working-class voters who have trended toward the GOP in recent years.
