Restrictions on foreign ownership of land prompt pushback, litigation

Nearly half of states could have a law on the books by the end of 2023.

Lawmakers in more than a dozen states adopted fresh restrictions on foreign ownership of land this year, a rapid acceleration as anti-China sentiment rises, particularly in red states.

At this pace, with bills introduced in more than a third of states this year alone, nearly half of states are on track to have a foreign land ownership restriction on the books by the end of 2023.
