Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee (D) on Thursday signed more than a dozen bills aimed at relieving the state’s housing shortage as prices skyrocket and workers struggle to find homes.
The legislation McKee signed will allow homeowners to develop alternative dwelling units on lots over 20,000 square feet, or on smaller lots to accommodate a disabled family member. Other bills would allow the state to count mobile homes toward affordable housing unit goals and allow more modular homes to be built.
