Right-to-repair bills gain momentum

Advocates called the bill passed in Oregon this week the best yet.

A consumer advocate-backed campaign to pass right-to-repair laws got a fresh burst of momentum this week with legislation passing in Oregon, the first state to act on the issue this year.

California, Minnesota and New York have similar laws on the books covering consumer devices. Colorado has enacted right-to-repair laws for battery-powered wheelchairs and farm equipment. Maine and Massachusetts have laws related to auto repairs.
