Rising home values sparking property tax debates

Property tax exemptions, credits and rate reductions will likely be a hot topic in state legislatures this session, as rising home values continue to push up tax bills.

Lawmakers in at least two states, Missouri and Wyoming, have already pre-filed property tax relief bills. Kansas lawmakers will likely include property tax relief in a broader tax cut bill. And task forces in Colorado, Ohio and Montana will meet to draw up property tax relief recommendations.
