The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments Wednesday in a long-simmering legal dispute over the creation of a new majority-minority congressional district in a case that some observers believe could set a new landmark in the constant wars over the way states draw their political boundaries.
At issue in the case, Louisiana v. Callais, is whether the state’s existing congressional district map amounts to a racial gerrymander by creating two districts that favor Black candidates.
