Sexual, reproductive health set for more state action

The number of bills pre-filed and carried over from last session indicates another busy year on hot-button social issues.

Sexual and reproductive health measures are being queued up for lawmakers as they return to statehouses across the country for the second year of legislative sessions since Roe v. Wade was overturned.

More than 1,500 provisions related to those issues were introduced as of Jan. 5, mostly in bills that were prefiled or carried over from last year, according to tracking by the Guttmacher Institute, a nonprofit research and policy organization that supports abortion rights.
