Share of Americans who drink hits record low

The poll represents the third straight year of declining alcohol use.

The share of Americans who consume alcohol has fallen dramatically in recent years as health concerns over the negative health impacts of drinking rise, according to a new survey.

The poll, conducted by Gallup, shows just 54% of Americans reported drinking alcohol this year, down 8 percentage points since 2023. That’s the lowest point in the nearly 90 years since Gallup began asking Americans about their drinking habits.
