Social media platforms must archive drug-related content in Calif. under passed bill

If signed by the governor, they would be required to save for 90 days content that is removed for violating policies on the sale of controlled substances.

California lawmakers gave final approval to a bill that would require social media companies to archive any content they remove from their platforms that is related to drug sales.

The legislation is part of the state’s response to the fentanyl crisis and is designed to prevent the erasure of evidence that could assist law enforcement investigations, especially in cases where someone dies from an overdose.
