South Dakota expands prescription drug stockpile

It is collecting albuterol, epinephrine, insulin, prednisone and pediatric amoxicillin to prepare for the winter months.

After years of shortages of prescription drugs caused by supply chain snafus in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) said Wednesday her state would begin stockpiling key medicines ahead of fall and winter months when respiratory viruses raise demand.

The state will begin stockpiling albuterol, epinephrine, insulin, prednisone and pediatric amoxicillin in seven locations around South Dakota, adding five new repositories to the two that currently exist.
