Special elections preview nation’s political climate

Voters will cast ballots Tuesday for a congressional seat on Long Island and a state legislative seat outside Philadelphia.

Special elections set for Tuesday on Long Island and in the Philadelphia suburbs will give Democrats and Republicans a temperature check of the very voters who will decide this year’s presidential contest in nine months’ time.

In New York, voters will choose a candidate to replace former U.S. Rep. George Santos (R), who resigned in a bizarre mix of disgrace and defiance last year before members of his own party had the chance to boot him from Congress.
