Sports teams seek billions for stadium projects

At least nine are in various stages of construction and renovation plans.

State, county and city governments across the nation are preparing to dole out billions of dollars to fund new construction or major renovations at sports stadiums, a virtually unprecedented flood of public money that will benefit the billionaire owners of major league teams.

At least eight Major League Baseball and National Football League teams are in various stages of construction and renovation projects that will collectively cost the public billions in tax revenues, tax credits and other funds, according to public reports. And other team owners are surely watching from the sidelines as they consider replacing their own arenas.
