State lawmakers urge Congress to reject AI regulation moratorium

The bipartisan group said preempting state laws would leave ‘constituents across the country vulnerable to harm.’

A bipartisan group of 260 state lawmakers sent a letter to members of Congress on Tuesday  urging them to abandon a proposed 10-year moratorium on state and local artificial intelligence regulations.

The signatories represent all 50 states and a nearly even split of 130 Republicans and 129 Democrats, plus one independent. The lead authors were South Carolina Rep. Brandon Guffey (R) and South Dakota Sen. Liz Larson (D).
