State leaders unveil proposals to strengthen online, AI safety for kids

The California and New York legislation signal continued focus on the digital well-being of youth.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and a leading California lawmaker started the new year with proposals aimed at making kids safer online and when interacting with artificial intelligence.

Hochul, a Democrat, endorsed a legislative package Monday to expand mandatory age verification to online gaming platforms and disable certain AI chatbot features for kids.
