States create nuclear offices to speed up reactor permitting

States want to streamline the process for building nuclear projects, as lawmakers include the power source in their plans to meet the projected electricity demand surge driven by data centers.

Lawmakers in at least nine states have introduced legislation establishing a centralized office to help shepherd nuclear development and expedite the permitting of new nuclear power projects, including small modular reactors.
