States embrace energy storage to combat climate change, lower costs

State leaders want to ramp up energy storage in an effort to deploy more renewable power to address climate change, a step supporters say would also save money. 

Lawmakers in at least 19 states introduced legislation this year addressing energy storage, including measures that would establish storage mandates, ease siting requirements and provide financial incentives, according to the American Clean Power Association, a clean energy and storage trade group.
