States expand shared solar power amid federal push

State lawmakers are considering legislation this year to create or expand programs that would allow businesses and those who do not own their homes to benefit from shared solar power.

Colorado legislators gave final approval to a so-called community solar bill last week that would expand its program. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) signed bills last month that expand the program run by the state’s predominant energy company, Dominion Power, and create one for the company covering most of the state’s southwestern area.
