States eye health care delivery reform with $50B rural health fund

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — State health officials say they plan to use a one-time federal cash infusion to find ways to overhaul health care delivery, as the money won’t come close to backfilling rural health system budget shortfalls and service cuts expected in the coming years.

That was the consensus about the Rural Health Transformation Program — a $50 billion grant program created in July by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act — from speakers this month here at the National Association of Medicaid Directors fall conference.
